We had a quick breakfast and drove the short way from Oakridge to Crater Lake.
The beauty of the lake is shocking. The blue is so blue it appears that you're looking into nothingness. (If that makes any sense!) At the same time, the blue is such a beautiful blue. It's hard to describe.
We had a blast in the recently plowed snow.
Sadly, they were preparing for their summer opening this Friday, so most of the hikes, drives, and boats were closed. Still the beauty of the lake was worth seeing!
We were able to see most of the rim from the west road (the only one open), and we enjoyed the movie about the park.
If I had to do it again, I'd make sure we come after July 1st when everything is open and I'd be sure to hike the C trail down to the lake!
Since most of the park was closed, we decided to shorten our trip (not spend the night) and head in to Lassen Volcanic National Monument.
BUT, we realized that we would likely have the same problem at Lassen because they also had much snow that was only recently plowed and heir website showed that the trail we really wanted to take was still closed.
Thankfully, they were willing to receive us a few days earlier than we planned. (:
