A pleasant and uneventful drive through the grasslands of central and eastern Montana

We saw hours of "spacious skies" and "amber waves of grain" with "purple mountains majesty," the Rockies, in the background. America the beautiful!
We had to say goodbye to new friends, Molly (the chihuahua) and Sender and Sage (who graciously allowed the kids to share in their train play). This family will live here for a few weeks while their dad completes harvesting in the area.
We were alone most of the day. Ky asked, "Is this the lonliest road?" I replied, "It's not, but it's pretty lonely isn't it?"
Every once in a while a town would rise out of the prairie,
then it would quickly disappear.
Lewistown was the largest town we came to.
There we visited the Central Montana Museum.
This torosaurus skull is a remake of one found here in central Montana. The actual find is on display at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman.
A farmer found this one and the army pulled it out with helicopters while they were conducting exercises with black hawks. Pretty fun story.
Experiencing the early schoolhouse.
And the film equipment of the local theatre.
And the guns.
This mural was on the side of the Albertsons grocery.
Ky had seen a horse in a store window and begged to go check it out.
Turns out, it was a leather store. With saddles and boots and bits and halters.
Sy made himself at home with the proprietor and a customer.

Back on the road...more prairie.

A rest stop where we cooked up some dinner.
Good night from central Montana!

  1. Lewiston Museum looks big with fun stuff, especially for a small town!

  2. We have been impressed with the small town museums rich in information and with lots of artifacts donated by many to share their history.
