Oklahoma City, OK - Capitol #39

Last night we had major weather. It was super windy and was supposed to last until 1:15 AM. We were parked at a Walmart and feeling like the trailer was being tossed by the winds!
About that time, the warning had been updated saying the high winds would continue until 7 AM. So we decided to move the camper to the other side of the parking lot behind the building where we would be shielded from the winds.
So much fun dealing with weather!
In the morning, we passed the famous SkyDance Bridge on the way to the Capitol.

Major reconstruction is going on.

They have a small art gallery on the 1st floor.
This done was added in 2002. It was in the original plans for the building from 1915, but they ran out of money and did not add it til almost a century later.
Thankfully, because it was in the plans the base structure was built to hold the extra weight.
The lunettes over the senate chamber represents industry, while the one over the house represents agriculture.
48 senators serve 4 years.

101 representatives serve 2 years.
This ceiling had been covered by a drop ceiling until a 1999 remodel uncovered and restored it!

This statue is on top of the dome.
OK!
In the cabinets below is the state seal. Oklahoma's capital used to be in Guthrie. In 1910 they took a vote to move the capital to Oklahoma City. It was somewhat controversial because the vote happened on a Saturday and by Sunday morning the governor had taken the ("stolen") state seal to Oklahoma City and issued a proclamation on hotel stationary stating Oklahoma City was the new capital.
