Big Thicket - 3/6

Exploring the swamplands of Texas...
Playing dress up at the GI Surplus store.

Quick stop for donuts and we're off to explore the thicket - and it's big!
By the time we arrived it was POURING rain so we milked the visitor center for all it was worth.
And it was awesome. A microscope and slides to see a variety of plants and animals up close!
Skulls and bones to touch, feel, and draw.
Bird databases to glean new bits of info from.
Finally, the rain let up and we headed outside. We drove to the Kirby Nature Trail and hiked it. So many unique plants grow here in Big Thicket.

We even found a small snake (above) and
crawdad chimney. We didn't know that crawdads could live in the mud!
Tendrils... Putting real life touch to our CC science memory work about leaves.
Lastly, we drove to a separate hiking location (sundew) specifically to see these carnivorous pitcher plants. So amazing!
