New Orleans - 3/4

Happy Birthday Jo!
I can't believe I have a 15 year old!
Since Jo wanted a low key celebration and just wanted to "get on with the trip so we can get home", I'll just tell about New Orleans.
It's 4 days after Mardi Gras and though the celebration has definitely died down it continues in some places.
We took the ferry over to the French quarter.

Throughout the city we saw remnants of the past. In fact, the neighborhood we parked in was almost entirely new homes post hurricane Katrina. Any older homes we saw had a definite water mark. A reminder that despite all the technology we put our trust in, we still don't have it all under control. And made us thankful that we know the one Who does.

Inside the old U.S. Mint, we watched a jazz show.
It was a really fun experience and we learned lots about New Orleans Jazz.
Louis Armstrong had an entire wing of the museum.
A short walk down Bourbon street just to say we did.
We got yummy beignets and hot chocolate at Cafe du Monde.

When we took the ferry back we discovered a Louis Armstrong statue.
We ended the day celebrating Jo at Cracker Barrel. He says it was a happy birthday. (:
