Little Rock, AR - Capitol #40

The Arkansas Capitol has a pretty traditional outside.
The inside is VERY clean and elegantly simple.

100 representatives meet here for 30 days in even years and 60 days in odd years.

The rotunda and the dome were just pretty. And the floors were shining clean.
The senate has 35 members.
These brass doors have not been used since 9.11.2001, but the doors are cleaned daily to keep them shiny and new looking - as they have been for over 100 years!
When we went outside, we met the man whose job it is to clean the doors. It takes him all day to clean the inside and outside of one set of doors. There are three sets. So each set is cleaned every third day. And that is his full-time job!
One former Arkansas governor who became US president... Clinton.
This treasurers office was very unique. They have a large safe that used to hold all of the state's cash and gold, but now only holds the cash.
The doors on the safe are so heavy that when they tried to bring them here (100 years ago) they transferred them off the train onto a wagon and the wagon immediately sank up to its axles. So they put the doors back on the train and ran new tracks right in through the second-story window. Then a train car came right into this room to unload the doors.
It was also very unique because they allowed each of the children to hold $100,000 cash. For real.
Sadly, they said they were out of free samples. (:

This is the old supreme court chamber. The judicial branch is the only branch that has moved out of this building into a new justice building across the street.
Outside, we took a picture with the Little Rock Nine. And to learn more about them, we went to Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.
