Nashville, TN - Capitol #41

We had a great tour of the Tennessee Capitol today. Our tour guide was fantastic. She is definitely a history buff and was so enthusiastic and cheerful about sharing her information.
The first of the two floors was pretty dark, but the top floor had a lot nose natural light.
The Supreme Court is the only branch of government that has moved out. They have their own building next door.
These two men, the buildings architect William Strickland and construction committeeman Samuel Morgan, are actually buried in the north and south walls of the building.
Here our tour guide shares her excitement about Tennessee producing three U.S. presidents: Jackson, Polk, and A. Johnson.
President Polk and his wife are actually buried on the east side of the Capitol.
This Capitol was built in 1845. During the civil war, because it was a strong, solid building atop the highest hill in the city, it was used as a fort!
We couldn't go inside the governor's  office because last week somebody refused to leave until the police drag them out, so now they won't let visitors inside.

99 representatives serve in the house for 2 year terms and they meet for a total of 90 days over the 2 years.

Our Davy Crockett with his namesake, who was elected to the Tennessee House in 1821.
33 senators serve 4 year terms and also meet for 90 days every 2 years.
Uniquely, the senators vote among themselves to elect the president of the senate and that person then also serves as lieutenant governor.
The state library has also moved to a building next door. But they left behind a few books in this beautiful room.
The Tennessee Capitol is smack in the middle of the city. When I called about RV parking, the generous man allowed us to park right outside the door on the street with the school busses. We are blessed again. (:
