Creation Museum

We were so excited for the opportunity to visit the Creation Museum in northern Kentucky. 

We had planned to start our visit inside, but several (read: 10+) bus loads of senior tours had just been dropped off, so after a half-hour attempt to explore inside, we decided to go outside first and do the inside later. 

There were fun things to do outside.

Back inside, we started with the standard 7 C's that are foundational to Answers in Genesis' discipleship plan. 

They start with recognizing that people have different worldviews. 

And show how that impacts the way you see different parts of creation. 

The Bible is the ultimate authority in everything. 

This scene is straight out of Inherit the Wind - a movie we read about and watch in Challenge B. 

The Garden of Eden was perfect. 

Then sin enters the world and the flood comes.

Addressing the geology of the Grand Canyon in light of the flood. We were just talking about this while we were there so this information is so timely to confirm and enhance what we were talking about. 

Sy still just loves dinosaurs. 

The insect exhibit didn't allow photography inside but there were HUGE beetles and more. (These butterflies were outside the exhibit.)

Back outside...

A Zorse and Zonkey (both zebra mixes) were in the petting zoo area that showed the breeding of similar "kinds". 

The goats could only be fed from outside the fence, so they were always facing out. 

We were so blessed by our trip here. Though much of the information presented was new to us, we were excited to find that much of it was not new! Rather it was confirming and reinforcing things we've already learned.

Overall, the museum was well done. In some ways, we've been spoiled with great museums and aquariums and zoos in SoCal so that the exhibits didn't stand out as much as it would have if we'd not had those experiences. (They were similar in quality.) If we lived nearby with young children, this would be such a great place to have annual passes to! We always had zoo or aquarium passes, but this place is so great because it gives the Creator all the credit. 

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

We drove down there. 

In the center of this 2 1/2 mile track, home to the Indianapolis 500, is the Hall of Fame. 

Ky: "Mom! Take my picture with this one!"

Silly girl. 

Notice the Cummins engine and Allison transmission have long been respected. As we were preparing for this trip and talking about good pulling vehicles for an RV, we decided a Ford truck with a Cummins diesel and Allison transmission would be the best - if it existed. This museum supports our theory. (:

So, Kik goes out and is eyeing this guys car and he says to him, "Hey do you guys mind getting out and letting me take a photo in your car?"

Haha. The driver actually offered. But it was still a funny interaction.

Turns out his car is on the front of a magazine right now.

Indianapolis, IN - Capitol #43

The Indiana Capitol was huge and housed all 3 branches of government. 

The main building material used is Indiana limestone - which we've heard about in so many other capitols, but here, they can say they are using hometown materials. 

They had to have a bust of Lincoln as he spent his "growing up years" here (age 7-21). 

The governor's office was beautiful but didn't allow pictures. There was a huge 800-pound conference table made by prisoners of a variety of hardwoods from furniture that was going to be thrown out. They used different colors of wood inlaid to create the state divided into counties in the tabletop.  

The stained-glass dome appears more arched as you move to the upper levels   

This phone booth comes in handy to make calls on your cell phone in an otherwise echoing hall. 

Six of our country's vice-presidents have been Hoosiers, including our current VP, Mike Pence (the former governor).

They were proud that their building was constructed on time and under budget. 

All the walls and ceilings are hand painted and were recently refurbished by art students over a 2-year period. 

This chandelier has 100 lights to match the 100 desks for the 100 representatives. 

Interesting mural. Note the money burning at the bottom left - it represents tax money the state collects. It's "being used for good things for all the people." That was funny to me because it just appears to be burning. ???

The senate has half the number of desks for its 50 senators. The lieutenant governor presides over the senate.  

Even the carpet has 19 stars for the 19th state. 

The Supreme Court was being worked on so I got a photo of the court of appeals instead. ): The Supreme Court has 5 justices and will reconvene this Thursday. 

Now, could we go to Indianapolis without seeing the Speedway? Nope. Next stop...
