Philadelphia - day 2

Since we've never been to Philadelphia before, we have no idea if traffic was always this bad or not. Turns out, not. The night we got here the public transit workers went on strike. So, instead of taking public transit every day, we drove into the city. Unfortunately, that meant everybody who usually takes public transit was also driving into the city. (: And traffic was horrid. Last night, it took us 45 minutes to drive 3.3 miles! But we enjoyed reading books while we were driving.
This morning we left later to avoid the traffic and we took a driving tour around the center city. First we stopped at the second oldest church in America. Old Swedes'.
next, we found a name that we know as the highest mountain in Australia. We were surprised that the same name had a national historic site in Philadelphia. Apparently, this Polish general served in the American Revolution and was also beloved by his countryman who had the privilege of naming the highest mountain in Australia.
Ben Franklin Bridge
Elfreth's Alley
Edgar Allen Poe's house
Philly cheese steak!
Carpenter's Hall - home of the 1st Continental Congress

We got to watch them print the Bill of Rights just as it would have been done in Dr Franklin's Printshop.
Another great day exploring so many meaningful historic places. And that's not all...(next post)
