What a full day!
As a follow-up to our trip to the mint in Philadelphia where we saw coins being made, we went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in DC to see dollar bills being printed. Of course, no photography was allowed. Our next stop was the holocaust museum. We were hesitant because of the graphic nature of the images presented, but there was a special introductory exhibit for children. After touring Daniel's story (through the eyes of a young boy), we all went upstairs for the full tour. I had the younger two and we zipped through quite a bit, while grandma and Scott and the older boys took a little bit more time.
Lunch today was at the USDA cafeteria where there were a wide variety of choices for $7/pound of food. I had a thanksgiving-ish plate for just under $5! We did have to go through security and show ID for that bargain though.
We visited the Smithsonian castle
dedicated to James Smithson the founder of the Smithsonian institution.
Next, we headed to the Museum of Natural History.
The Hope Diamond
Last stop of the day… The National Archives. We got to see the Magna Carta! (Cue song about English King John...) So amazing!
I took this picture before I was told that there was no photography in the entire building. And I took the picture below when I forgot there was no photography in the entire building. Thankfully, it was just of Ky in the basement acting out the part of National Treasure where Ben Gates is being shot at and using the encased Declaration of Independence as a shield.
