Plymouth & Cape Cod

The National Monument to the Forefathers was our first stop today.
It honored the Christian heritage of those started our country.
Then we stopped by Plymouth Rock - where it all began.

The Mayflower II was made to look like the original Mayflower ship and gifted to us by England.
This tour guide was funny. There were many questions he didn't know the answers to. But one thing he was positive about: there may have been religious people who came on the Mayflower, but they did not come for religious reasons! He did call them Puritans, so I'm sure if he read a bit about them he might think differently.
According to him, all the passengers came seeking fortune. It was surprising to him that they brought their women and children on such a perilous journey, (and all to seek fortune) and he acknowledged it was a "miracle" that they survived. And he admitted that we only know what happened because of Governor Bradford's journal - which perhaps he has not read. Anyway, it was funny to me that he made a point to make sure we knew they didn't come for religious reasons.
Next, we made our way to the cape!
We had a great time exploring this little arm of land that extends into the Atlantic Ocean.
It was beautiful weather for the beach. I was bummed we didn't think to dress for it because it was so dreary and cold this morning.

And a little history, of course! We visited the spot where the first trans-Atlantic cable brought messages from Europe, at "Cable Street". As well, we saw the spot where the first transatlantic wireless messages between President Theodore Roosevelt and King Edward VII of England were sent and received.

As we were leaving I thought it would be fun to have this record of our location. (:
