Topeka, KS - Capitol #47

So many firsts at the Kansas Capitol...

first state library tour
(with glass floors to allow daylight through)
First time seeing a bill being debated in the Senate

First functioning cage elevator

First time going above the inner dome!
...and climbing up all these stairs to the very top of the outer dome

and stepping outside onto the balcony for a view of the city!
Back in the day, anyone could come up here (not on a tour) and you can see that some very crazy/brave kids left their mark on beams that are about 8 inches wide and 60 feet above the glass inner dome!

The House of Representatives and governors reception room were typical.
Beautiful stairways throughout.
And the flag with their motto: Ad Astra Per Aspera, "To the stars through difficulties".
