The Old Courthouse

At this court house in St Louis, Missouri, Dred Scott had his day in court. (Of course, the case eventually went to the Supreme Court.)
On these same steps, years before, slaves were sold.
This statue commemorates Dred Scott's struggle for freedom.
The Supreme Court ruled that African Americans could not be citizens. This case pushed Americans toward the war between the states and the creation of the 13th, 14th, & 15th amendments.
Inside the court house, there was a museum about the history of Saint Louis.
From Native Americans to explorers like Lewis & Clark...

Saint Louis has a rich history.

Kik gave us a tour of the courtroom, having just completed mock trial and being an expert on the positions of everyone in the room and what their jobs were.

From the front steps, the arch dominates the skyline.

We have loved driving on the byways of America as we get to see life in different areas (instead of just the interstate).
