Olympic NP - Big Cedar hike

We started the morning with breakfast at the campsite.
There are great open areas for the kids to play. And the inn-keeper decided that she liked us immediately just because we homeschool. So the kids could almost do no wrong in their play, which was nice. (:
They had such cute areas all around. These Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake. A gazebo next to that and then a small circle of comfy chairs around a fire pit also overlooking the lake.
We enjoyed this short hike.
Our first introduction to the temperate rainforests here.
This huge tree has fallen, but where it lies, it allows many other trees to grow on it! Super interesting phenomena found only in temperate rainforests.
This is the "big cedar". It is long dead but still an attraction - til the end of this month. Then, this hike is being decommissioned by the park. You will still be able to hike it but it won't be maintained, so gradually it will be overgrown.
Playing by the stream is so fun. We could stay all day if I wasn't being eaten alive! Since I was being eaten, we'll move on to another trail.
