This capitol's layout was quite familiar as it was designed by the same architect using pretty much the same plans as the Iowa capital.
But that didn't make it any less beautiful. And I was still awed when I first looked up and saw the Stainglass in the rotunda.
Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and cheerful that we really enjoyed the tour and it actually seemed too short - even the kids said, "We'd like to spend more time with her!" I agree. Usually you get extremely personable or extremely knowledgeable, but rarely both.
Fun fact: Legally Blonde 2 was filmed here.
Not so fun fact: After hearing that, and having heard that Legally Blonde was filmed at the Utah capital, Ky really wants to see both movies.
Details galore are highlighted by recent renovation.
This barrel ceiling is different from Iowa's flat stained glass, but Illinois' rotunda stained glass was modeled after the rectangle one in Iowa, using the same colors and design.
As we left, we descended into the catacombs under the capital.
Here, there are tunnels that connect the Capitol to the building next-door where members of the legislature have their offices.
