Reflections - sorting: give, store, take

Apparently, it is more challenging than one could guess to plan what to take with you for a year's journey, what is worth storing for a year, and what to give away because you don't need it or it can easily be replaced OR the replacement cost is less than the fees for storing it for a year.
(Just reading that sentence may give you a slight taste of our challenge!)

So we took everything from our 1040 sq.ft. 3 bedroom apartment, our 1-car garage, and what was already stored in my dad's 10'x12' shed and laid it out in his backyard.

Then we created 6 piles: trash, shred, savers (goodwill), "want to keep if there's room", storage, and trailer.

We had already been doing this at the apartment and made several trips to savers, but over the next week we took trips daily with the entire car full!
We also posted furniture on Craigslist. And, in the end, what didn't sell, we put on a curb alert and it was gone in an hour.
We had 10-12 file boxes worth of documents that needed to be shredded.
Most of the "I want to keep" had to go. ): That was a little difficult.
And surprisingly, though according to my last post I would be fine on the road without much stuff, a LOT of stuff went into the trailer.
In the end, a friend offered us some garage storage space so we wouldn't have to pay for storage because she thought that was not good stewardship and we agreed. Her gift of free storage made our sorting easier! All my books and kitchen, 3 Christmas tubs, and Scott's drums went to her house!
That means everything else we own had to fit in a 10'x12' space. AND WE DID IT!

But not without help... Thank you Schultz, DiPeppino, and Newport families! Your sacrifices made this trip possible!
